Friendship Traditions Circa 2010

Note: I recently rediscovered this Facebook “Note” from 11 years ago – which plays perfectly into a recent podcast from my new co-venture, Girlz Just Wanna Tell Stories! The more things change…the more things stay the same! Watch our PILOT episode here!

Written in 2010:

Ladies Night

It’s a funny phenomenon of how friends come into your life. I am fortunate enough (and perhaps oddly so in many ways- as I have been informed!) to still have a very strong network of friends from my junior high days.

As one ages, the vehicles to a social life exist through your kids, your organizational/social ties, or work. For me, work has played the single largest role in creating friendships post-high school. The most wonderful part, these women began simply as “co-workers” and as the relationships grow, in special cases, so does true friendship. I am honored to have retained friends from nearly EVERY work environment I have ever had – from my early flight attendant days at Trans World Airlines to present company included – and thanks to social media for reuniting some of us!!

Interestingly, when the work environment is tumultuous, there is a higher likelihood that close ties are formed. Tonight’s “Ladies Night” attendees are all former co-workers – and we have chosen to continue to meet on a monthly basis for dinner, either at someone’s house or a local eatery. Not only is it a nice break from “reality” it’s also a great networking tool, and a way to keep a finger on the pulse of many various business categories in our tight-knit community.

Amongst the Ladies:

1 Realtor/Retailer

1 Property Manager

1 Accounting Guru

1 New Mommy (responsible for the newest “Little Lady” of the group!!)

1 Court Recorder

1 Bailbondswoman (boy has this connection come in handy, not for personal need of course!!)

1 Returning College Student (you go girl!)

and 1 Blogger

Since my #1 Intention of 2010 was to blog, I said to the ladies that today’s blog was going to be about them…to which I received only one testy reply,

“No Blogs. What happens at Ladies Night, stays at Ladies Night!”

Thanks, Ladies for another great evening! Cheers to reaching our goals in 2010…and to keep the friendship going.
